98 Jetta GLS pleeease help?
Hi, I have just bought a 98 Jetta which I LOVE... except I have run into a few problems...
1. 3 of the power windows dont work I dont even know where to start with this, as I called the dealer and they say for parts alone it would cost about $1700 to fix them... then ad labour to that aaand.....2. This one I hope has a simple solution. The guy I bought it off tried to fix the drivers window by taking off the door trim. He ended up taking the window motor out and found the cable was all twisted and stuck. So he just left the motor out, put the door trim back on and gave up... anyways, since then, the remote hasnt worked. I dont know if he messed something up in there to make the remote not function.. ? is that possible? if anyone can give me any help at all I would very much appreciate it. Mahalo nui loa Jasmine |

buy a repair manual and check the wireing in the door that he took apart, if you have a junk yard around you go there and get the motors out of another jetta or passat. before you do that check the fuses.
if the wires are all twisted up then untwist them and look for damage to the wires and repair them. not sure you might be able to use some after market motors, do a google on it. |

ok thanks! I actually took the door panel off, fiddled around, got depressed, put it all back together and.... the remote now works!!!
sooo.. maybe I bumped something and fixed it??? Also, I tried the back window, (back right) and it went down...!! But it wont go back up. I have to pull the actual glass up and wedge something in there to keep it from slipping down... help? mahalo Jasmine |

Re: 98 Jetta GLS pleeease help?
Yes a repair manual, buy from Bentley Publishing. DO NOT BUY Chiltons or Haynes. Open your front doors, pull back the rubber boot in between the door and the body, and see if the wires are cracked or broken. My Jetta had some broken, and fixing them solved a whole bunch of strange problems. If these are OK, check to see that you are getting power to the window motors with a test light. A test light will cost you at max $5. Put the alligator clip on a hinge or bolt on the door, anything unpainted. Stick the test light into one end of the plug that attached to your window motor. If the light comes on in the test light, you have power (make sure your ignition is on). If you find that all the motors have power, but are bad, buy the parts you need online for a cheaper price and have the VW dealer install them for you.
