I have a 97 Taurus with roughly 60k miles. I have noticed that when I come to a complete stop and then take off the car does not move for a split second. After that split second the car makes a loud noise as it engages, jerks the car forward and then takes off. This happens only every once and a while but enough to worry me. The dealership that I bought it from said that they could find nothing wrong with it and all they could do was tell me how good the condition of the car is. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the problem might be and if it is backyard replaceable. Thanx Brian |

Re: 97 Taurus problems I NEED HELPPP!!!
Well of course the dealer says its in perfect condition. They dont want to admit they sold you a car that may have a problem. Does the engine rev and not move, or does the engine stay at idle? If the engine revs but the car doesn't move, that points to your transmission. Check your fluid level, and fluid color. You may want to change the tranny fluid and filter and see if that helps. If not then your tranny has an internal issue. Bad thing is that taurus trannys are not known or their durability, especially the AX4S.

The rpms do rise as I press the accelerator but the car does not move for a split second. "POP!" into gear it goes and I am on the road again.
