Question whining when in gear

ariel

Good morning all,
I've got a whining problem. I'm afraid it's the transmission but I'm not positive and wanted to get some opinions before I go to a garage. The car (97 malibu) sounds fine in park, when I put it in drive it whines and when I accelerate it gets louder. I could just turn the radio up but I want to drive it until I have to get and can afford another car. I'm the second owner - the first guy drove it hard - I've already replaced the main gasket, had problems with the steering gear/box and I'm sick of putting money into my car. It's been whining for 3 days. I'm only driving it when I have to.

thanks for anything you can offer.
Keri

I am sorry for this...

[sarcasm]
I don't think it is the transmission. Most Malibu owners find it is them who are whining from time to time. Just drive a while longer and you will get used to doing it. We all do.
[/sarcasm]

Again, I couldn't help myself. Sorry.

Re: whining when in gear

Check your fluid levels. Mine was whining and I found out it was low on tranny fluid, which I put in yesterday. Whining went away. Now if I cn figure out what to do with the cheese (sorry, could not resist). But my advice was serious!
