Cross drilled rotors
I recently purchased some cross drilled and slotted rotors, what kind of pads should I use?

Re: Cross drilled rotors
Do you need anything beyond ceramic or porcelan?

I really don't think so. I was thinking of going with a ceramic semi metallic.

Re: Cross drilled rotors
Well I decided to go with a Ceramic enhanced pad. They are PROSTOP. Their was only one other pad better and they were called Greenstuff. BUt those aredesigned for acing use. We'll see how it goes with these PROSTOPs and the cross drilled/slotted rotors.

Re: Cross drilled rotors
Do you know that your front break has to be balanced with your rear break? If you are using harder front break pad then you need to use harder rear break shoes in order to balance them.

Why do they have to be balanced? The front brakes do about 80% of the stopping. I have never heard of that before. I decided to go with a semi-metallic ceramic enchanced pad. Car stops awesome and has a firm brake pedal now. Brakes whine under heavy braking. I guess that is a trait of cross drilled rotors.

I'm taking mine into the dealership on Friday to get the brakes and rotors replaced.
I picked up the Powerslot slotted rotors and Hawk performance pads (carbon metallic I think?). That was the recommended setup from the high perf. parts place I bought them. He said ceramic brakes work very well also they're noisier though and harder on the rotors. These carbon metallic pads also produce very little brake dust. We shall see after Friday. |

UPDATE:
The cross drilled with the cermaics are great. Takes a little getting used to. The brakes have great initial bite and they don't get hot and loud like the old ones in stop and go traffic. Although, they whine slightly under heavy braking. I think it might me whistling, but it does it only when braking hard. |
