Idle spike at start and shifting

I thought I'd run this by the group. 93 V6. When I start the engine(hot or cold), the rpm's spike above 2000. This also happens when I shift from park to R and to D. Any thoughts? I know this to be odd because I have two 93 V6's and the other is normal. It's just a spike. Thanks.

Re: Idle spike at start and shifting

When I first start my 94 it goes up to like 1500, and going into R or D goes up to 1200, higer if A/C is on. I don't know exactly why it would go up to 2000 tho. I think the spike is somewhat normal, but 2000 seems high.

Vacuum leaks will do that. I'd check all the hoses for cracking or for any hoses that may have been displaced. Also check/replace the PCV valve and hose. Although a dirty PCV valve usually causes hesitation, sometimes the hose can be loose fitting or cracked.
