94 taurus door panel speakers

For almost a year now, the speakers on the drivers side and passanger side door have been blown. I finally decided its about time to replace them =). I've heard something about the taurus's speakers being JBL, is this right? If so, howcome they blew so easily? Anyways. my point is, how easy are they to change? I realize you have to take off the door panel, but how? Are there screws, clips, what should i look for. And also, what size speakers are they? Thanks alot for any help!

The JBL speakers were an option--not standard--and you very likely don't have them.

In truth, I own a 2002 Taurus so for removing the door panel I can't guarantee this will be the same but here is how mine works. There should be several screws holding the door panel on. Make sure you don't forget any screws that are behind the handle to open the door and any that are on the front edge of the door near the hinge.

Once all the screws are out, you may have to pry the panel out; a small crowbar or something similar may help you, but be very careful not to damage your door or window. Incidentally, you may want to roll all your windows down before you attempt this if you have power windows.

Incidentally, if you have manual windows you will have to remove the window lever. This basically entails sliding a cloth behind the lever to yank out some hook but I'd recommend searching online to see this because it's hard to explain.

And be careful when you pull off the door trim if you have any power locks or windows or mirrors because you'll have to unhook the wiring harnesses from the door panel before you can pull it off; just don't yank on it too hard as you don't want to stress your wiring.

In your '94, the door speakers are 6.5". The rear speakers are 6"x8"/5"x7" if you have the sedan, 6.5" if you have a wagon. And the sub, if equipped, is 6.5".
