Unhappy 2000 Windstar Won't Idle - Need Advice

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar 3.8 L (71K) that is driving me crazy. My problem is that it will not idle. I have added fuel cleaner, and the like with no relief. I have access to a diagnostic tool, and it told me that the MAF sensor is out of range, while running the "key-on,engine off" scenario. It fails this every time it is run. The engine is running extremely rich, won't idle, and smokes from time to time. It will run above 1000 RPM, but misses horribly above 3500 RPM. It is also quite gutless, which is ABNORMAL for this van. From other posts, I read about the IAC being bad, so my question is would the IAC cause a fault code for the MAF? especially while failing the KOEO test. The fault codes are P1100, P1101, and P1121, all of which are MAF codes. 1100 - intermit. MAF , 1121 - TP Sensor not consistent with MAF, and 1101 - MAF Sensor out of range. I just do not see how the IAC could fit into this scene. I know Windstardad had a similar situation, but mine has DTC's that are different.

What do you guys think ??

Sounds like everything is pointing to a bad MAF sensor or connection.

Cleaning the IAC is easy and free I would try that first to see what happens.. Then go back to maf and check and clean connections and or replace.

Cleaned the IAC, Ran for a little while, then died again, was actually blowing black soot out the exhaust, leaving a trail on the ground. I went to Ford, dropped $175 on a MAF, and it runs like new again. If any of you do this, make sure you line up the notches on the air cleaner housing, if you do not, it will leak and still fail the MAF DTC. If I disc. the old MAF the van actually ran better than with it.

Sorry but that well happen sometimes because of carbon build up in the exhaust. remember you did say your van was not running well. the cleaning of the iac was not the only thing causing it to blow black smoke. But be at ease.. there is nothing wrong. and your IAC is clean and you replaced the MAF. I would go ahead a oil change not quite sure how much cleaner you put in the IAC but if the fluid gets to the oil it brakes it down quicker. But otherwise no worries.. Gary
