Air dams in front of rear wheels???

Has anyone ever noticed those small air dam pieces located in front of the rear wheels on some Toyota models? My particular year Camry doesn't have them but I've seen them on other Toyota & Lexus models and other manufacturers vehicles. Anyone know what they are for?
