ok i have a 98 civic ex coupe, and im replacing the timing belt, and make marks with white out on the old belt switch the marks to new belt, line everything up, tighten everything down, then i put everything back together again, and when i spin the motor over the marks dont line up on the cam sprocket that i originally had lined up. the cam sprocket is lined up for tdc, and so is the crankshaft pulley, just my marks are off by like half a sprocket? shouldnt they still line up? i didnt feel the belt slip or anything, so if someone can help me out i would appreciate it!
thanks dan |

Re: timing belt help!!
uh, this is not a smart way to put on a T-belt, but whatever. If you marked the belt then turned the motor once, of course its not going to line up. The belt does not make a complete revolution with one revolution of the crank. You would have to turn the crank numerous times for it to ever catch up. Why dont you do it the right way and set the cam and crank at TDC, then install the belt, turn the motor over till the cams are at TDC again and make sure the crank is still lined up.
