97 JGC not starting
Heres the recent problem, it won't start. I just had the fuel pump changed, after that it was working fine up until two weeks later. When i tried to start it up it seemed like there wasn't enough energy in the battery to get it going, so i would have to hit the gas a little to get it started. Without the help of hitting the gas, it just wouldn't start. Now it doesn't start all together. I thought i might be the battery so i charged it up for about a good 4 hours and nothing happened. It would make a weird noise inside the car as well, it was a continous ringing noise, all most like i hit a jackpot. But after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, it no longer makes that ringing noise or starts up. Not sure if its a computer malfunction, the starter, the battery, or something else. Any Idea's??

Do you have any fault codes showing? Have you tried the Key - on Key-off, Key on - Key off, Key- on (all within 5 seconds, to activate the self test)? Battery connections tight, including the smaller wire hooked to the postive terminal?

okay i just tried the key-on, key-off suggestion but i got no response, no code was displayed, and i checked the hookings on the battery and everything i tight. But its still making the ring noise from two places, the first place is from inside the speedometer dash and the other is from inside the glove comparment dash. There aren't any displays lighting up anywhere....any more suggestions?

Re: 97 JGC not starting
Hi there, please excuse me for nosing in on your problem to solve mine...
My check engine light has come on on my 96 GC ltd, I've tried the key on-off procedure, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or if I'm looking in the right place for the codes... Sooo... for the weak minded in the crowd, could someone paste in the procedure for the 96, including what and where? Thanks!

Re: 97 JGC not starting
The procedure is the same as is listed above. I know it works on my 97, but it may not work on a 98, but the 96 should operate the same. If you do it right, you should see the codes listed in your digital odometer window and you should also here a chime with the same information.
Give it another shot....

Re: 97 JGC not starting
DUH! I just realized after RE-READING that procedure that you end with the key ON. I was doing on-off on-off on-off. I guess it makes sense you'd need the key on for it to display.
Please forgive for the ignorant question, I've been working graveyard for about two years, my brains are pretty mushy these days... Thanks!
