Question 93 lumina euro running hot.

i drove the lumina around after work this evening and let it idle alot. when i got back to the house, i noticed the temp guage rising. so i put my foot on the gas and sped the idle up to about 1500rpm. the temp dropped a bit , however when i took my foot off of the gas the temp guage began to rise again. the first thought i had was that the thermostat is not opening up. but when i looked under the hood i notice that only one of the cooling fans was running!!! does anyone know if the fans are supposed to run at the same time? what could be the problem? is there a sensor that could be bad? has anyone seen this before???

Re: 93 lumina euro running hot.

ive noticed that my fans do not work at the same time, im assuming that when they both kick in at certain temps. not sure though. my lumina does the same thing, while idling temp gauge will rise, while giving gas or in motion temp gauge will then lower. it has never overheated however. my needle usually goes up about 3/4 of the way, nothing beyond that. i have a new thermostat, radiatoor cap nad have recently had the coolant flushed by sears automotive shop. all is well, good luck. as long as it dosent reach the red zone you should ok
