1983 jetta 1.6l tdi blinker hazard reverse light prob

i just bought a 1983 wolfesburg jetta with 280k miles for $500 and i decided since the dash lighting is basically non-existant that i would put in my own with a couple leds, some wires, a pair of AA batteries and a toggle switch- the problem is that when i was taking the dash off the hazard light switch was rusted onto its wiring - i decided some good old man power would do the job - but i ended up splitting the back end of the rocker switch off - exposing the metal insides - it wouldnt of been a problem putting back together if it werent for the springs inside shooting out and vanishing - i didnt mind too much my old car didnt have working hazards either - but now the blinkers and reverse lights no longer function - head and brake lights are fine - now the light for the blinkers is dimly light when the car is on - and it stays on when the blinker lever is down instead of blinking - it was all working before hand - im assuming it has something to do with the hazard switch? - and suggestions would be nice - especially $0 ones
