So who is to decide what is waste and what is not? The funding was approved by our representatives, no? Cheap shot.

I'll say it, "We are there for the oil." As for Halliburton, give me a short list of companies that can do a better, as good, or nearly as good a job? Cheap shot.

That was a reason, but the justification was for the oil. With the porous Iraqi borders allowing the flow of terrorists into Iraq, those are terrorists not attacking the US. Half-assed cheap shot.

He wasn't only elected, he was also reelected. The people who elected and reelected him aren't as shallow as you think or hope. The election and reelection obviously proved that he was more qualified than McCain, especially in dealing with 9/11. Cheap shot.

You've got to get over the fact that he won, and won again -- obviously, you didn't vote for him???...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Laura vs. Hillary in 2008?

Bechtel should have easily won the Iraqi contract over Halliburton. Halliburton was under investigation by the SEC for accounting "issues" for a major project they had recently worked on. Not to mention they were coming off one of the biggest lawsuit payments in the history of the US for the whole asbestos ordeal. Their stocks crashed as a result and the company was very near bankruptcy, and were in no way fit to undertake such a large project. Then comes the lovely US government, awarding them a mutlibillion dollar contract. Who arranged the contract? The VP's office. Who is the VP? Dick Cheney, aka former CEO of HAlliburton. That's kinda wierd. Also kinda weird that when they do undertake the project, they mismanage and somehow "overcharge" the US gov by 100 million, and that's only what was found during 1 audit. Halliburton doing any sort of a good job? Please.

Yes, yes, yes, and the same goes for Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Computer Sciences (top 3 prime federal contractors), Titan, Boeing and other contractors, including Bechtel (see http://www.washingtontechnology.com/...0/23555-1.html.

Allegations of wrongdoing, whether true (mostly) or false (rarely) are part and parcel of government contracting practices.

All of those who believe this happens only in Republican administrations, raise your hands (interesting, huh?).

All of those who believe this happens only in THIS administration, raise your hands (more interesting, huh?).

Let's get real.

Bechtel is in Iraq with Halliburton, thrasher. Bechtel is in half as many countries as Halliburton. Bechtel has less than half of Halliburton's staff. Bechtel doing any sort of a good job, either?

Jeez....

Very true. Halliburton was operating, in much the same way, during the Clinton administration.

BAH! I wouldn't vote for either woman. They're both flakes, and neither would be even semi-successful as president. The end.

OOPS! I'm sorry. Did I accidentally point this thread back on topic? I hate when that happens...
