Temp Gauge- over heating/ oil gauge jumping

hey! i have a '91 cav. and over the past week, after the car is all warmed up, the temp gauge moves up indicating it's hotter when i'm stopped in traffic, but it goes back to normal immediately after i start driving again. * it moves up about almost 1/4 over center line, but continues to increase the longer i wait to drive again. * i haven't experimented to see what else happens... if i'm stuck in traffic then i turn off engine!
i'm barely low on coolant fluid, but there aren't any leaks ect.

and also this past week... the oil gauge jumps all over the place when i'm idle as well! i did put a little too much oil in last week if this has anything to do with it??

anyone have any clue what's going on?
otherwise in car condition... it's outstanding!

thank you!

Umm... excessive oil will screw your car. Always have the right amount!

thanks for your reply!

so are you thinking it's possiable that might have something to do with the temp gauge? i can see reason for the oil gauge jumping around having too much in it.... sigh... it took a while to settle, but not much over full line. i can always drain it if need be.
i read some posts throughout forum last night and saw some things about coolant fluid getting in oil...probably nothing related in my case.

my only concern here is risking long comutes to work...80 miles round trip per day if i take this new job until i move closer or i can do a 40 mile round trip job but it's in all country roads.
*just wondering if anyones familar with this and if it's likely a huge expense to get fixed. * i haven't encountered this before nor heard of this with what my car is doing!

any knowledge/experiences i shall gladly appreciate!

Check and see if there is oil in your coolant or vice versa.

ps... the fan starts up immediately on a cold engine... not sure if that's normal.

Replace the coolant fan relay immediately. They are around $12.

Re: Temp Gauge- over heating/ oil gauge jumping

i might figure this out from a autoshop first before and if someone replies... but i can't figure out where the coolant fan relay is or what it looks like!
i have looked all over the net and can't find what the part looks like for my car. and i don't have a repair manual for this car... is there a free one to look up on internet?
is this a simple thing to replace?
if i have to have it done immediately... i have to get it done within 2 days before i start new job!
