Unhappy Brake lights stay on!

My brake lights won't go out. I have checked the fuses on the inside and all is fine. If I remove the brake light fuse, then the lights go out.
I have also checked the hand brake and the brake fluid and all seems well.

HELP!

Check the brake pedal where the brake light switch it. there should be a rubber bumper. alot of times they get old and fall out. if so then it will act like your brake is always being pushed.

If that doesnt help you probably have an open to power in the circuit somewhere.

Re: Brake lights stay on!

I had this problem and took it to a local place where they replaced the brake light bumper and all worked well again.

Re: Brake lights stay on!

I had to replace my brake booster and when I did, the pedal sat a little different. This causes the same problem with the brake lights staying on. I found out the hard way and needed a jump start from my truck. The button you guys are talking about is threaded for adjustment and has a nut to lock it into place. If the rubber piece isn't missing, you may just need to adjust it.

Re: Brake lights stay on!

Yeah, I took that switch off assuming it was bad before I realized how it works and that there was just a hole there in the pedal and nothing there to push the button.

Re: Brake lights stay on!

Until you find the replacement button, just try covering the hole the button goes in with some duck tape and maybe cardboard. Anything that will work to trigger the switch!
