|
coolant seeping in floor and front defroster dont work!!!!
i have a ford escort L 1985 1.6l station wagon!!!! i have been noticing that coolant is somehow getting to my floor and whenever i turn on the heater smoke comes out next is that the windows fog up at night even when i turn on the defrosters!!!! plz help thank u!!!!
also, when i turn on the fan it smells like coolant!!! |

You have a bad heater core and it will need to be replaced. The smoke you see is actually steam and the coolant on the floor is from the water accumulating inside the airbox. The reason the defrosted does not work is because you are putting more steam onto the window not taking it away.
This is not a hard job on the older Escorts so you can repair this yourself with basic hand tools. If you are afraid to tackle the project then take it to a shop. A Chiltons manual would be a great help. One word of advice though, keep a close eye on the coolant level as you can lose a lot of coolant very fast and cause overheating problems in your engine. |

If you are not going to have this fixed right away I would bypass the core.
