AT "shifting"
wife's 99 windstar sometimes shifts from drive to a lower gear at speed. watching the tach, it appears to go to 3rd. anyway, seems to only happen when warm temps as in the morning, it never happens. checked the ATF, asd it's towards the bottom of the line, but within the "grid"? should i just top off the ATF and see what happens?
thanx...i'm a newbie and this is my 1st post. |

Re: AT
99 Windstars had a TSB calling for the ATF to be kept near the top of the dipstick hashmark area to reduce harsh shifts especially during a turn.

Re: AT "shifting"
...................Which of course is not the same problem you described but I think it would be an excellent first step.

Re: AT
Your post also didn't mention your ATF history, have you kept up with your scheduled fluid changes?

Re: Re: Re: AT
I don't know specifics, but there sensors on tranny, speed and range selctor I think, Might be worth replacing those, there have been stories of shops diagnosing a rebuild needed but turned out to just be one of these sensors. A shop manual is your friend
