Hello,
I have 2 situations I am looking for input on: 1) While getting my oil changed, I noticed that the original oil pan on my 96 Civic EX (112, 000+ miles) has a thin coating of oil on the outside. I never see any oil on the driveway where I park the car full time and was wondering how concerned I should be about this? 2) I recently had the original muffler replaced. There was a small whole that has rusted thru on top of the pipe (going front to back) that leads into the fat part of the muffler. I bought DynoMax® replacement muffler assembly (part# 54042) at ADVANCE Discount Auto Parts. It was recommended that I get the Bolt Kit (part# 35129), Gasket (part# 31360) and I believe it's called and an Insulator aka "Rubber Donut Hanger" (Part# 35286), which I bought. To have installed, I took it to a local Midas shop and they replaced everything except the Insulator aka "Rubber Donut Hanger" (Part# 35286) and they to "save it for future use". Now, just after the 90-day Midas labor warranty ran out it sounds like their maybe an exhaust problem again...although not as bad as previously. So, I am wondering if I DID need that Insulator after all OR if there is maybe another problem because I also, noticed that the replacement muffler, which I did not treat with anything prior to being installed and bolts are very rusted already. I appreciate any advice and input. Thanks! |

Re: 96 EX Oil Pan and Exhaust
sounds like its a mild steel exhaust or muffler whichever you installed. you should have painted it with some rustoleum or something. something to help prevent rust. as for the oil pan. i too have the same thing. a very thin film of oil on it. for me it looks like its coming from the gasket so im going to get a new oil pan gasket and swap that in.
