Turbo vs Supercharger in a B18C5 Type R
My friend is gonna drop a b18 in a 97 honda hatch back and we were arguing which would be the better performer, a supercharger or a turbo? Ive been saying turbo but he seems to think supercharger is better for 1/4 times. Can ne1 help settle this arguement?

![]() On a type-r motor, neither is good. Leave it N/A. A type-r Is already built to be a great n/a motor. High compression, high redline, drivetrain to handle it. If you strart throwing boost, turbo or supercharger at a motor with that high compression, you'll end up with detention. Basically, a higher c/r motor boosted is more prone to detonation, which will destroy the motor eventaully (sometimes sooner than later). It is possible to mix high c/r and boost for big power, but you have to keep the motor in tip top running shape or detonation will occur, which will kill the motor. I don't recommend you try this. If you want a B18C5, leave it N/A. If you want boost, go with a different 1.8 B series motor, like the GSR (B18C1) or LS (B18B1) Both have a much more boost friendly compression ratio than the type-r. If you want the type-r, don't but either on. Boost + high compression = bye bye motor. Remember, cars on boost have LOW compression ratios, not high comparrion ratios. High compersion ratios like th B18C5 is for N/A set-ups. For a different motor, turbo versus supercharger, do a search, this has been covered many times...especically in the techincal and N2O/Turbo/Superchargers forums. I don't feel like re-typing a WHOLE bunch of stuff, here are some previous posts I've make on turbo's and superchargers http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...2&postcount=11 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...3&postcount=13 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...55&postcount=2 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...9&postcount=11 http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...29&postcount=3 This should be enough posts where I've talked about turbo's versus supers to explain it.
