Question 98 GTi Vr6 AWD?

I want to put a turbo on my vr6 but I am thinking it wont have much grip. How hard and how expensive would it be to make it AWD?

Hmmm...

Hmmm, I think it would be cheaper to buy a Subaru Impreza RS or an older Audi. I think the tranny would be extremely expensive not to mention that you will have to put a drive axle down the center of the car then put in a rear axle. So the modifications that would be necissary to make room for all that would also be very pricey not to mention you would probably have to find someone to do it for you since it would be extremely labor intensive.

Re: 98 GTi Vr6 AWD?

Yeah that does seem like a lot of work. I really love my car though I wouldnt want any thing else. Should I even put the turbo on then? Do you think the grip problem would be solved with an LSD?

Definatley put on the turbo. There is no "grip problem." The car will haul ass. Maybe put on some wider tires if it does become a "problem." Are you worried that it will peal out? That is operator control. Grip problems when cornering? Stiffer suspension and wider low profile tires will do teh trick.

That I don't know. Probably. What I would be more worried about is the transmission. Hopefully someone else on this forum can help with this question but this forum doesn't seem to active.

Re: 98 GTi Vr6 AWD?

The tranny might need to be upgraded maybe cryo'd plus upgraded clutch stry SPEC, ACT, or Sachs Super clutch. Get a flywheel also.
The VR6 will hold around 400whp with little to no problems. We have a very stout overly built bottom end engine. AWD will make the car heavy around 3800lbs. unless you have money to spend I would just do the turbo that's expensive as it is. Good Luck.

Just don't dump the clutch and you shouldn't spin. Turbos lag in anyways, so you shouldn't spin too bad. Less you are gunning it, in that case you need to use control like he said. Besides, turbos are for top end, not low end... how many cars short of a Shelby Cobra 427 or Skyline do you know of that will spin tire above 60 mph without changing gears?

BTW, VR6 what? GTI? if that is the case, maybe you could strip the drivetrain out of a wrecked R32 or something else AWD and make some cuts and welds here and there... the drive shaft will be ok cause the exhaust already goes down a hump in the middle; it will be a question of, "where do I run my exhaust now?" Hell run that shit right out the side...
