Question what is better?

what is better a 98 svt Contour or a 99 Couger with v6 5speed? i want to know because i have found a 98 svt for 4k with 80k miles in good condition. and i found a Cougar for 5k with 83k miles same condition.

also someone told me that they had a svt contour with an auto trans. did they make any svt's with auto trans?

I would say the contour would be the way to go. has more room and more power. the cougar has less HP, but is asmaller car. in terms of speed they may be equal...the larger car is what I opeted for.

They never made an SVT contour with an auto. the only way someone would have one is if they modified their engine with the SVT stuff.

Re: what is better?

The Contour SVT never came with an auto.

The Cougar and the standard Contour are the excact same car with different sheetmetal. Neither one is larger or weighs more than the other.

I would take the SVT. That is a no brainer. Faster, handles better, stops better, all the luxury add ons etc.

i just got to say, i much prefer the zetec over the duratec. and especially when it comes down to repairs. ive seen too many problems with the duratec most involving cooling system and head gaskets.

but between those two its hard for me to say because i usually like 4 doors and im power crazed but i like the cougar better

well, the head gasket failures are probably due to warping heads due to waterpump failures. Most people generally never look at the gauges on the cluster and finally start realizing the car is overheating when steam is pouring out of the engine bay. At that point, its generally too late and the heads have already warped. But besides that fact, blown headgaskets are pretty rare just by themselves. They are probably more common on zetecs since they already run hot as it is since most of them are atx's and the tranny cooler sits right in front of the radiator blocking just about all of the air flow.

I would have to agree about working on them. The duratec is crammed in there, but I love the motor and would take another duratec in a heart beat.
