price for a rebuilt transmission?

really need some info on how much i should expect to pay for a rebuilt transmission for a 93 buick park avenue. standard not ultra... today coming home from the store she would not shift out of 1st gear for a while. till we pulled into a parking lot let her coast and then she shifted as normal. i would love to know what i should be expecting to pay for a new or rebuilt trans. so im not gonna get shafted by some shop. please any and all replys would be welcome.

The best price I found was $1000.00 and the price varies upward from that up to $2000.00 depending on the shop. Call every shop in your area and get a quote. If they will not give you a firm price, hang up!! Some will say "around 1000 or 1200", dependinging on what the problem is. You want a complete rebuild, so it does not matter what the current problem is. Get a firm quote in writing if you can. It does not hurt to check the reputation of the shop either.

thanks for ur reply, i called all the shops in my area. and 1200 is the cheapest i could find, that includes tourqe converter and labor. and has a 6 month warranty. but many thanks for ur time. i dont get many replies in this forum so thank u very much
