1996 Brittle Firewall Cover
The plastic cover on the firewall (engine side) of my 1996 Bonnevlle SE is brittle and easily cracks (it's literally falling apart!). The affected area runs from the brake booster to the passenger side. I first noticed it about a year ago and have used aluminum tape as a patch but since I now have the engine out for an overhaul it looks like it's the time for a real fix. Has anyone else had this problem? Any good ideas?

Re: 1996 Brittle Firewall Cover
Are you talking about the Maxifuse cover? If so, just grab another from a junkyard for a couple of bucks.
The only other thing I think you might be talking about is the insulator on the firewall. This has a medium hard rubber layer on the outside and insulation on the firewall side. If it's this, you've got a big job ahead of you if you plan on removing and replacing. To me, it looks like it's one piece and you would have to remove the brake booster and possibly the blower motor housing.
