92 Caprice Classic transmission
I have a 92 caprice classic, 4.3L-V8, auto transmission, 180,000 miles. Car has run well until until October when suddenly, the transmission wouldn't shift into 1st or overdrive. Car would try to start in 2ond, or occasionally refuse to shift at all. It could be manually shifted into first.
Took it to a transmission repair shop. They diagnosed it as a bad "governor" (?) and a "weak" pump (?). Rx: rebuild transmission. Transmission rebuilt, same problem. Garage sent the car out to another shop which diagnosed a computer failure. They replaced the computer and wiring between the computer and transmsision. Problem not cured. Now I am being told that there is an unknown problem is in the engine. Engine runs just fine. No error codes. Any suggestions? |

Re: 92 Caprice Classic transmission
the problem is the governor once you change that it should be fine nad also i dont think the transmission shop rebuilt it because if they did it wont have any problem

Re: 92 Caprice Classic transmission
I am a little lost...I have a 92 with tranny trouble also...Why rebuild instead of buying a new one?
The local shop gave me a ballpark of 1g to rebuild. I think if 1/2 is for labor wouldnt a new tranny be the way togo? Guess I should price it both ways b4 I go jumpin to wrong answer.
