'88 Pontiac stalling on long drives/heat

Well I own a 1988 Pontiac 6000 and now its stalls when you go on lengthy drives (2+ miles) or when its hot even shorter. what happens is the car starts to shake tremendously when slowing down and then when it comes to a complete stop the engine shuts off. When you turn the car back and put it back into drive, it stalls/shuts off again. I have no idea what the problem is. We even took it to a shop to be looked at and they couldn't find anything.

So any one know what the problem could be?

Oh and the only way to get it going again is when after starting it, you have to rev it a little and then put it into drive.

You don't say what size the engine is but there are two items that will cause this problem, bad crank position sensor and a bad fuel pump. The CPS is cheaper to change than the fuel pump so start there. The last possibility is the ignition module under the coils but the CPS is your best bet.
