96' Maxima vs 01' Intrepid ES

I checked JDpower, epinions, carsurvey.org, autos.msn.com and they both seem to be reliable cars. The dead chrysler engines you hear about are the 2.7's.
Both cars are listed $7000.
The Dodge is a 3.2L 222hp V6, 49K miles, 2001. I have a link here:

The 96 Maxima is black, only 40k miles dealer has no pics, just says it had all power, and ABS.
Both cars are automatic.

I like the Intrepid better, but i'm worried bout reliability. However, the Maxima is almost 10 years old.
I'll carfax both cars to check for accidents, odometer fraud, and if the cars were ever at rest (mileage behavior).

Ide really appreciate any comments.
Thank You.

P.S Any other cars from 5-7K g under 60K miles to consider? My main concern is reliability and fuel economy. I will tollerate 4-bangers if they have 150 hp minimum.

Re: 96' Maxima vs 01' Intrepid ES

i would go with the intrepid, it was a well designed car and was taken very seriously by the engineers. the transmissions are pretty good as FWD Automatics go and will only be more reliable if you install a transmission cooler. The only advantage the maxima has is a slightly more luxurious interior.

if i was you personally i would go for the interpid, i dont know any tech things on the interpid cause we have none of them in aus but the interpid has alot better looks than the maxima so i would go for it but its all your decision. good luck!
