New amp isnt working correct. What did i do wrong?
I have a JL Audio 12W6V2-D4. My old sub amp was a Hifonics ZX6000. It was putting out 600W @ 4 ohms. I had my subs DVC wired in series. The DVC was at 8 ohms. My old amp was not stable at 2 ohms so that's why i ran the DVC at 8 ohms and not at 2 ohms. This setup hit fairly well but i wanted my sub to run at 100%.
I just bought a new Hifonics BX1000D mono D-class amp. It's specs are 1x350W @ 4 ohms, 1x700W @ 2 ohms, and 1x1000W @ 1 ohm. I changed the DVC to run in parallel (so they are at 2 ohms now). I turned on my car and there is almost no sound comming from the sub. I thought that the ohm rating from the amp is dependent on the DVC ohm rating. So shouldnt my amp be pushing 700 watts? There are only 4 reasons why almost no power is going to sub: 1) I am a fool and bought the wrong amp 2) I dont know what i'm talking about with the ohms thing 3) I have some wires crossed (like pos and neg on the sub) 4) I dont have good grounds or wire connections. I moved the imput sensitivity from 9v - .2v and ther ewas almost no change. The Protect LED(light that lets you know something is wrong) never turned on. Let me know what you think. |

well it sounds like you've done everything the right way. Have you checked the bass level on your headunit?

Re: New amp isnt working correct. What did i do wrong?
The headunit puts out 4500mV or 4.5 Volts. I adjusted the input to about that. I messed around with it some more. It's almost like it wont hit very hard but the bass does go deep.
For example, with my old sub, i would put in rap music that would hit pretty hard. It would give me a light back massage. This thing wont do that at all. I'm wondering if i'm starving it. I have about 1ft of 8 gauge from the power distrobution block to the amp and 1 foot of 8 gauge from the amp to the ground distrobution block. I'm running about 3-4 foot of 12 gauge to the sub from the amp, and inside the sub box it has about 1.5-2 ft of 12 gauge power wire. The amp is supposed to push 700 watts at my current setting. Would too small or too long of wire keep the sub from really hitting hard? This thing should raddle my brain but it wont. |

8 guage is too small for that amp, change it out for 4 guage at least.
And I meant is the bass on your headunit turned down? Not the output voltage.

yeah the bass and all settings are at 0. I unhooked the battery and it reset my stereo to 0.

try messing with the settings on your headunit then.

I had that same problem, sept I bought new subs. Thought my amp wasn't powerful enough, so I spent $450 on a JL amp. Still didn't fix the problem. Well turns out the pre outs on my headunit were bad, had to get a new one...
