what have you paid for a new fuel pump?

From a mechanic, basically $730 when all is said and done. Seems crazy to me, but the pump itself was freakin' $600. Any other experiences?

2002, 5.3 V8, 42k miles. Pretty ridiculous, but seems par for the course. They also told me this was the "updated" fuel pump and not the "original".

I have a 98 2 door Tahoe that I bought about a month ago and the fuel pump went out the third day I had it!!! I payed like 310$ for the fuel pump and I installed it myself. It was pretty easy actually, all I had to do was take the two bolts out of the straps that hold the talk in place and lower the tank down with a floor jack. Then you unplug all the wiring harnesses from the fuel pump, take the clup off the unit and pull it out of the tank. Then, simply replace the fuel pump with the new one and reinstall everything. Its not something I would ever pay someone else to do and im only 17. Im sure most people could figure it out.

Re: what have you paid for a new fuel pump?

Well, I won't go into paying someone to do it or not. Needing turnaround on the vehicle and someone having the tools is something I'll pay for. I think the cost they are charging me for the part from the Chevy dealer is pretty absurd. Looking around online it seems they are totally ripping me off. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see what they are charging direct....

I lied, the charge was like $410 for the pump. Still seems high. And the labor was like $260...wish I had the time to do it myself.

I got mine at Oreilly also, for somewhere around 200. It then went out again a few months later, good thing for warranties. Only special tools needed are those little gas line disconnectors, will only cost you around $5.00. Make sure you dont let the tank fall, or you will yank the electrical connectors off.
