GTP Transmission on a GT....possible?

I read the notes on the top, but I really did not see this part...

I plan on turbo charging the stock engine on my 2000 GT, but I am wondering if changing the transmission would be a good thing.

I know the GTP has a beefier tranny, so, I thought that swapping that one, with my stock one, would better suit the trubo.

However, I, not being an expert or a mechanic, have no idea if that would work.

So, that is why I am asking you guys/gals. Would that be possible...recommended, or ever worth it?

Also...if it would work, would I need to change any other parts to accommodate the tranny?

...And finally, where would I go about looking for the Transmission, junkyards? Or other sources?

Thanks a lot for your help.

EDIT: I forgot to add, I have 42,000 or so miles...if that makes a difference

The transmission should work without problem. You may need to reprogram your pcm for the different shift points but the transmission should bolt up easily. The wiring should be correct as well. I would recommend that you use the axle shafts from the heavier transmission too as they are beefier and will handle more power. If you are looking for a transmission stay with one for your year and model as it will bolt up the easiest.

Thanks for the answer. If I do get the turbo, I will get the transmission at the same time, and the Turbo comes with a reprogrammed PCM, but I would have to look into if the shift points have been changed, I would suppose they would be...but who knows.

Thanks again,

Also, if anyone knows where I should look for the transmission first, I would LOVE to know.

Thanks.

Try car-part.com if you are looking for a used one as they have wrecking yards from all over the country so you should be able to find what you are looking for. Sometimes ebay also has some brand new ones.

You might want to check out ZZP Performance if money is no object. They have 4T65E HD trannies for your Grand Prix for around $1800. And the 245mm torque convertors with better stall speeds which will take advantage of the turbo and improve ET times.

www.zzperformance.com

Good luck!
