Bad power window motors ?

The power windows don't respond at all. A test light to the switches indicate there is power in and out. Are the motors rebuildable with the plastic bushing kit? or are they junk?

The switch looks good but there may be a bad connection at the motor. I would try to jumper the motor first before you go after a replacement.

I have rebuild the tailgate motor but never the door.

Door windows are a pain because you have to remove the rivets to get the window regulator out. (The motor is on the inside of the regulator, and you can't un-bolt it while the window is in.)

Get a drill of some size, and drill the rivets out. The window assembly does come out. You can un-bolt the old motor, rebuild, replace, whatever (I picked up a motor for $5 from a junkyard.) Then when it comes time to put the regulator back in, get a bolt/nut set and bolt it where it had been riveted. (You will probably have to shear the bolts so you can get the interior door panel back on.

DO NOT get a Pop-rivetor and assume it will go back the same way. I tried with a Wal-Mart set, and now the window doesn't work properly because the rivets are too small. It works, it just clangs and rattles as it moves...

Don't drill the rivets out, I just finished that same job last week on a 1990. there are 3 brass hex head bolts (5/16" I believe) get a small hole saw and drill over the heads of those bolts so you can put a wrench on them. prop the window up with something inside the door Take the 3 screws out and push the motor away towards the outside and fish it out. If you use the nylon replacements they give you with the repair kit, your gonna be useing those holes you made again. I used 1/4" round aluminum stock cut about 3/8" long to make "rollers" after I pulled out all the nylon that jammed up the transmission of the motor. Packed axle grease in there and put 1 "roller" in each of the 3 corners. Just make sure you dremel out any rough or sharp edges on those rollers and that motor will be just fine. After you get the motor together just line up the holes and tighten it up. No need to remove the regulator.

I'm having a similar problem with my windows. The motors work just fine but the driver side window on my 93 comes off the track at the very bottom before it goes into the door. It does come back up just fine though.
