Re: Coolant leak on a 95, 3.8 155K miles
Hello guys, Stopped by a junkyard and got to hold a flywheel from a 95 windstar.
It is impossible to put the flywheel on backwards. The flywheel is kinda dome shaped, and can only be screwed on one way. You can see the balancing weight thru the starter hole as you rotate the crankshaft. I am satisfied with this car. I trust it to carry my wife and family where ever they need to go. I've serviced the suspension/steering and now the engine runs like a top. All the buttons on the dash and doors work, the AC works and buggy still gets 24 mpg. Total cost for the head job, installing the flywheel, all the suspension joints and the starter. came to just over $1100. The transmission will go someday, but that ain't going to cost more than $2000. I'll take that any day over three years of car payments! If I keep this up for a few more years I'll be buying my next new car with cash. That's a day I'm looking forward to. Thank you all. You inspired me to take this on myself, and yes, it is possible to do a head job on a Windstar in your garage. It'll take you minimum 2 weekends. Start Saturday to pull the heads off, and drop them of at a head shop Monday morning. They'll have them done by Friday, then you spend the whole next weekend carefully putting things back together. Best of all you can twist home that friggin screw behind the oil pump thats be causing that coolant drip all those years! This forum and you are a wonderful resource! Thank you again.
