I have a 2001 cherokee Limited with the 4.0lt 6cyl. It has a clicking noise near the rear of the valve cover,(cylinders 5 or 6). I believe it is a lifter going bad. Can the lifters be taken out and replaced without removing the head. Can the rocker arms be adjusted. I need some cheap advice. Also if the lifters need replaced, where can I find them.thanks for any help.

Re: Re: lifter noise
Just had the same problem. You do need to remove the head to replace the lifters. Lifters can be bought at any automotive supply store. The lifters are hydraulic, therefore, no lash adjustment for the rockers. However, the replacement of the lifters did not fix my problem. I am still looking!
