wont start

Car suddenly started sputtering and then turned off. Now engine cranks and turnsover but wont start. Is this a fuel pump issue?

Can't tell from your description. What size engine, what year? How many miles? It could be a number of things, like the crank position sensor, ignition module, fuel pump, fuel pump relay etc. If you have a security system that could also cause the same problem.

By the way, welcome to the forum!!!

It's a 2001 2.2L with about 81K miles on it. Pump relay has been checked and has new plugs and wires. No security system or kill switch. And thanks for the welcome.

Re: wont start

Check the fuel pump by lying under the car and have someone turn on the key. If the pump is working you will hear a noise from the pump. If not then the pump will need to be replaced. One question and I don't mean this to be an insult, is there gas in the tank? Sometimes guages will malfunction and you will not get a true reading on th guage. If the pump is working look at the fuel filter as possibly being blocked or the ignition module as going bad. The final thing is that the crank position sensor went bad and is not referencing the crank to allow it to fire. On this particular engine the most difficult repair is the fuel pump.
