94 auto trans shaking when accelerating

Just had my car aligned, and it still shook like it wasnt aligned. It shakes horrible when I accelerate, and then calms down a little once I am at cruising speed. It seems to shake more when it is cold. The motor runs great. Just changed the plugs and plug wires. the mechanic said it was my tranny - that it was going out. Is this true? Is there something I can just fix other than replace/rebuild my tranny? It's a good car, but not worth replacing the tranny! Any ideas? Thanks very much! I appreciate your help!

Have you tried injector cleaners? try spraying that in with some premium fuel... don't have to fill up.. just get like 5-10 litres.. use the cleaner and see if it helps.. if it does then you need to clean the injectors...

The motor runs great! Had the injectors cleaned last year. New plugs. new wires. It is NOT the motor. It vibrates very bad when I accelerate fast. I could take off very, very slow and it probably wouldnt vibrate very much. But I'm not a granny!! Even with the vibration, I can still leave everyone in my dust when I take off from a light! It cruises at high speed just fine, with just a small vibration that I can get used to. But the car shakes bad at acceleration. Just need to know if there is anything I can do besides replace the transmission that will stop the vibration! Thanks for your help.

make sure you're not pullin oil in one of your cylinders. My Maxima does this exact thing that you describe, and oil is the issue.

I'd start by having the tires looked at like balance or a dead spot

I do apologize - maybe my posts are not clear. My motor is fine. I just had the plugs and wires replaced - it was given a complete checkup, including computer diagnosis, and it passed with flying colors (other than the plugs and wires).
I also just had my alignment checked and adjusted (and checked twice, after it still vibrated after the alignment was done). I even got new tires!
After all that checking, the mechanic said it was my transmission going out. (he did a road test)

I just need to know a few things:
1) has anyone else heard of this problem?
2) is there maybe something I could do to fix it that wouldnt require replacing the transmission?
3) Is there something else it could be (other than tires and motor)?

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it!

I have seen axles (cv axles) make vibrations. Bring it to a tranny shop (most big chains will give a free estimate) btw just because you have new tires dont mean it wont cause vibrations.

I also own a 74 nova that has a high speed vibration (was a bent axle) I replaced the u joints, then driveshaft, then tires and rims, then replaced the whole rear end. Finally found it. However I have 3 other friends who complained of vibrations and 90% of the time it was the tires (even some brand new) more so with the cheepo tires. Are you sure, positive, seen they balanced them. Try rotateing your tires and see what effect if any.

Re: 94 auto trans shaking when accelerating

I have experienced something similar, and I thought it had to be my alignment. After having both front tires replaced, I was told that my rear springs are broken, and my front outer tie rod is broken. I am in the beginning of repairing this on my own, and your description sounded familiar, so it's just a thought. I have found out that Escorts are notorious for tie rod breakage.
