Downshifts into 2nd at 50mph.

My Geo metro, if I floor the gas pedal, will downshift into second gear at speeds up to 53mph. Naturally this is bad for the motor(burned valves). I am wondering if all 1990 Geo Metro's with automatics do this.
Please tell me if your automatic Geo Metro will downshift into 2nd at 53 mph.
