1991 240SX Stereo Wiring Help

k, dont be mad that im posting this, haha, i've been looking around these forums for hours, and i cant find the info i need :/

i have a 1991 240sx that the owner before me cut the stock stereo out of, so i have like a billion wires that i dont know how to connect properly, i've looked online, but i cant find a listing of what the wires all relate to, the last description i saw, said that the main 12v wire was green? in my car its yellow, so im kinda confused, if someone can either tell me what wires connect where, or where to look i would be GREATLY appreciative , thanks

Re: 1991 240SX Stereo Wiring Help

well that's kind of broad... usually there's two main bundles of wires. Generally, they are attached to sockets which you can clip onto any headunit as long as you have the appropriate adaptor (which u can get at your local electronics store)

when you say "cut" did you mean that literally? in that case i highly doubt you can find an exact layout of what goes where... even if there was, you'd have to manually attach each one. that's kind of crazy... it's probably easier to get a new set of wires and re-hook it up. not sure if it's that easy but it's just an assumption.

take the speaker covers off... look at what color wires are attached, there ya go, theres your speaker wires. antenae is the wierd one with the probe on it. power is usually red and black. its been a while since ive been under there, 7 or 8 months, so i cant remember, and its not like i can go out and check. search online for wiring diagrams of 240sx radio's or something. i know its been posted on here at least.

Re: 1991 240SX Stereo Wiring Help

oh and the speaker wires. all i did for my bmw was hook the power up, and everything else, then test what speakers were where till i got the right ones hooked up in the right spot. so, on the top of the head unit should be a diagram of the what the wires are coming out of the head unit, look for "right front speaker" and touch the leads to two other speaker wires till you get the front right speakers. doesnt hurt anything, at least it shouldnt.

its nothing new to cut all the wires. they did that at best buy for my alpine, and gave me a diagram of what goes where. i can hook up any alpine i want, its not like im ever going to get anything different.

btw, i looked online for hours, everywhere wants me to pay for it, im not gonna pay $15 for a little list of things, lol

What you do is get the adapter for the headunit and then you just attach the colors together. The right colors r on the adapter.

Re: 1991 240SX Stereo Wiring Help

hey whats up, maybe i can help, Buy an cheap electricity tester, the ones that you attach the grond wire to the chassis and with the other you touch the wires to tell you wich cari power. eny way groud the tester, and touch around, one will light up and that is the battery wire, that goes to the yellow wire in most after market sterios. This allows the stereo to keep memory features. mark that wire. Put the key in the ignition on and prove around the other wire that lights up is your ignition wire. that usualy goes to your red stereo wire. You need an antena adapter. I had some issues on my car because the speakers were not turning on. so i put new speakers and laid new wire down. on the door speakers they go to something like a comp switch board. i dont know if enyone else has had this problem. If you have eny more issues email me. I like instaling stereos and i might be able to help you out

Re: 1991 240SX Stereo Wiring Help

i would say try this site...
http://installdr.com/InstallDocs/Nissan/PDF/647005.pdf
i have wired both my S14 and my dads jetta with that site and they both work fine.
