Shud I sell it????Confused !!!!!

Hi all,

I got a 1994 Hyundai lantra 2 weeks ago for AUD4500 +AUD188(rego)which has got like 128000 Kms . The car is in excellent condition except for some problems. I had a few initial problems from day 1.I could never say that it will start in my first attempt. I thought it's not bcoz of the battery or the starter motor. Maybe it's the injectors that needs to be cleaned. I tried using Nulon Pro strength Octane boost whick wud kinda help me clean the injectors. The results so far are quite ok. But like I said, the car does stall sometimes and sometimes I have trouble starting the car.Well, the other thing is the CEL(Check Engine Light) which flashes occasionally.

As of now, the car runs perfectly fine. Its got low kms, cd player, P/s, central lock, power windows, ABS, clean interiors, new tyres, rego, roadworthy and everything that u wud ask for in a car. But I AM THINKING OF SELLING THIS CAR NOW ALTHOUGH I DONT REALLY WANT TO.ITS JUST COZ I FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS GOING TO GIVE ME TROUBLE AGAIN, AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I MADE OUT FROM THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE SIMILAR CAR.

A solid on check engine light usually means that there's a sensor error screwing up. Either the sensor is bad (usually the case) or something else is causing the sensor to have an abnormal reading. A flashing check engine light usually means that the catalytic converter is overheating. An overheating catalytic converter can be many things. Most of the time (from my experience), it's raw fuel ending up in the converter, than igniting which causes it to get really hot in there. Mostly, raw fuel in the converter is caused by a bad sensor (which makes the mixture going into the engine EXTREMELY rich). Another cause is a misfiring engine and a misfiring plug (had this problem personally). Because one cylinder doesn't fire properly, all of its fuel ends up in the exhaust, next stop, converter. One more way I've seen this happen personally is with an older, more tired engine. I drive a company vehicle sometime, it's kind of our beat-up errand vehicle and if i take it on the highway for too long the light flashes and i was told this is because the engine is so tired, it takes more fuel to run it at highway speeds so to get it to keep speed, you're dumping a lot of extra fuel in it...hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply. I had everything checked. It was the faulty Coolant temperature sensor that was bringing the CEL light ON.I changed it. The car's starting good now. Let's hope it continues to run good ever.
