Re: Re: how to remove an 05 ex-se coupe head unit/rca converter install?
The link to the DIY thread is broken and I tried to search the forum for this and was not able to. This is exactly what I am searching for, how to remove the head unit from my 2005 Civic, I hope the thread hasn't been deleted/removed. - brent (I'm new to this forum)

you can install the converter in your trunk. You just need to splice the speaker wires to the converter and your done.

Re: Re: how to remove an 05 ex-se coupe head unit/rca converter install?
How would I splice in to the speaker lines?
My end goal will be to connect my iPOD via one of the kits that connect to the CD Changer circuit of the factory head unit. Did Honda run CD Changer wires to the trunk? Thanks |

okay, i think i'm a bit confused on exactly what you're using. Do you have a link or anything to the converter that you are trying to install?

Re: how to remove an 05 ex-se coupe head unit/rca converter install?
if you have an SE there is an Aux port right on the front, i an unsure if there are wires running to the trunk but it seems to me that it wouldnt matter to you because you would then have your i pod in your trunk. am i misunderstanding this? oh, and i did splice the speaker wires in the trunk on the pass. side right out of the loom before they split to different speakers, works great!

Re: Re: how to remove an 05 ex-se coupe head unit/rca converter install?
Sorry,
Yes I am a different person that orginal poster. I don't have an SE or a head unit with a built in AUX port. If I could splice in the trunk, that is certainly an option, but I am not sure of functionality. Here is one device that connects to factory head unit and you can control iPOD play list as if it is a CD changer: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dl0UmYf...o&i=581PA10HON There are a few of these with simular features. There are also devices that just connect to head unit and give you RCA jacks w/o the custom iPOD connector, so it would work with any MP3 player, DVD, Sat Radio, Etc. I am not sure what sort of device I would need if splicing into the speaker wires in the trunk and how I would control my iPOD and also supply power to it. I have ordered the $4.99 instructions from Crutchfield on how to remove the factory head unit, it comes with a bonus item called "Crutchfield Guide iPod Car Installation Guide", so I will see what that is all about when it arrives. I am thinking for my purpose, I will need to remove the factory Head Unit. I had the front center console apart and found 2 screws below the power adapter, after I removed them, it didn't seem to free anything up. So I put everything back together assuming there must be some other way. Sorry to be so wordy, just trying to "clear" things up, but I fear I have made it more muddy in the process of explaining where I am in the process. Thanks Brent |

Re: Re: how to remove an 05 ex-se coupe head unit/rca converter install?
I just found a DIY and the console looks just like mine (2005) it indicates 2004, but everything looks the same. It is a shame, I was right there, just didn't have the guts to put a little pressure to the head unit.
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=176750. Now all I have to gain from Crutchfield is the IPOD booklet, which I think I arleady know my options! :-) Thanks for this awesome forum. Brent |

Re: how to remove an 05 ex-se coupe head unit/rca converter install?
Ok let me see if i got this correct. The rca converter will give you a place to plug your rca cables to your stock head unit and run them to your amp. Am I correct on this point. And where can I find one of these if this is actually what it does.
