90 Olds 98 - Engine quitting

I recently replaced the Ignition Module and Coil Pack on my Olds 98 w/ 3.8L V6. The car will start fine but after it has warmed up it will just die. If I let it set for a few minutes it will start but die a few minutes later. Any thoughts?

I have a 1991 98" with electronic everything.I have a different problem now,but had to deal with your same problem recently. On your firewall you have several relays( along the top) ,get a new one and hopscotch down the row while it is in the no run condition and you will probably find your problem. Its about a $ 5 or $6 dollar relay .15 years old under a hot hood and they do go bad. Just a suggestion its fairly cheap to check it out.

you might want to have your crankshaft position sensor checked out i have seen it many times where it will run fine and then just die and wont start until it has sat for awhile i would say there is a pretty good chance of it being your crank sensor as they are fairly common to let go in their old age

Where is the Crankshaft Position Sensor on this model, and what kind of a job is it to replace?

The sensor is behind the harmonic balancer,(main pulley on crankshaft). If you take your right front tire off and remove the inner fender panel(just plastic snaps)it is a lot easier to get to.You will need to get a spacer tool to get the new sensor set just right as you only have a few thousands of clearance and it is very very hard to see. gggman

Thanks gggman, have you ever replaced one? Do I need to pull the harmonic balancer off? Can I do the job without the special tool? Any other advice??

You probably can do it without the tool,if you measure very carefully where the sensor is at.It was easier for me to remove the pulley because I had never replaced one before.Wanted to see what made it tick.DO NOT TIGHTEN THE SENSOR MOUNTING BOLT TOO TIGHT,I DID,BROKE THE BRACKET. Good luck!!
