Re: 97 ram 1500 v6 to v8

It's supposed to bolt right up and work. I've researched this deeply and the 3.9 is supposed to have these "boss type" motor mounts instead of the normal "ear type" mounts that the eights have. Other guys have told me that this is wrong anyway and the eight will sit in the mounts that the six was sitting in, I don't know and I haven't looked that close at it yet.

You'll need another wiring harness, or you'll have to splice in two other wires for the 2 new cylinders. Guys say that you'll need a different transmission as the one for the six isn't strong enough, but I just think that depends on how hard you are on it.

I'm pretty interested in this since I have a '97 1500 with the 3.9 and I'd like to put an eight in when the six has had enough. I don't know much about it so if you can, please let us know what information you find. And let us know definitely how the swap went if you do perform it. Thank you.
