S-10 Blazer wiring problem

I'm not sure how to put this but I'll try. Whenever I move my steering wheel one way or they other (even without the key in it) all the dash lights some on as well as the buzzer. Normaly I would think it was something in the ignition but when I start it and turn the wheel the truck will stall out. I bought the book for it and read everything but it didnt help. I even by-passed the wiring harness and it didnt help. My guess is its something in the steering wheel but i dont really want to either tear it apart or end up replacing the whole steering colum. Any help would be great.

Its an 86. Just wondering here because I've never done it, is there alot of work involved in replacing the steering colum?

Re: S-10 Blazer wiring problem

wasnt for the impala, the wiring connecter for everything in the colomn was mounted on the shaft near the pedal. so i just undone that a few retaining bolts under the dash and the retaining pin near the knuckle under the hood and slide it out. i did have to go into both steering wheels to swap out the key slot. i hope it is that easy on the s10, ive never really had to go there with one.

I key slot isnt a problem. That pullsout at will so it can change that easily. Just a thought here but since I have alot of free time would it be easier just to rewire the whole truck?
