Exclamation 97 Grand Am SE - engine problems

Alright so here's the story. bought this car used back in january.

well, saturday night i was driving around and i'm guessing the bumpy country road i was on for a bit didn't make my car happy. i was cautious but apparently not cautious enough.

so now, on my way home i start hearing a slight clicking/clanking noise but it disappeared after a moment.

then as i came to a stop sign it started coming up again and whenever i stepped on the gas the RPM shot up furthern than it normally wouldn't go and the clicking/clanking noise was back and was louder and continuous.

i came to a second stop sign and my oil light came on and then when i stepped on the gas it just wouldn't go so i turned the car off and turned it back on again. got home and waited till morning to check it out.

apparently my oil dumped so it was very low and the clicking/clanking noise is coming from somewhere under the engine cover/housing. and i'm not too experienced with fixing cars and i am going to take it in soon.

i just wanted to know if anybody could tell me what the problem might be and how much it might cost to fix it.

also the engine vibrates, i've had problems with it vibrating before but i got it fixed. could of happened again though

Did you happen to puncture the oil filter? Or do ypi know ehat happened to male the oil level drop? The clicking noise you heard was probably the lifters making noise from not getting any oil.

How bad is the engine vibration? If the vibration is not a real hard vibration it could be caused by bad motor mount or mounts.

I hope this helps.

AND Welcome to the Forum,

I agree with Hoags. You need to find out where the oil went. Once you find out where the leak is and repair it, drain and refill the crankcase with oil and put on a new filter. Start the car. If there are no unusual sounds you should be able to drive it without problems.
