starter pinion sticking

my starter will spin but wont engage all the time or will disengage on its own early sometimes causing the engine not to start, it doesnt sound like it has worn gears but i havent had the time to check yet. if its just the pinion stick what is a good way to resolve this?

take it out and test it. if this problem isnt fixed youre going to mess up your flywheel. and then youre talking work.
check your wiring going to the starter and make sure tight and nothing frade(bare wiring).
