Rebuilding A 1995 Sc2 Motor

I Have A 95 Sc2 Dohc 5speed That Burns More Oil Then Gas , I Was Going To Put The 93 Sl2 Motor In The 95 , But If I Gotta Go Thur All That Work And Not Ever Hearing The 93 Motor Run For Myself . I Was Thinking Of Ripping It Appart And Having A Valve Job Done And Rings Etc. If I'm Gonna Do All This I Might As Well Put Some Extra Hp In ?? Right ? ? What Can I Have Done To Get Somemore Hp From This Motor ? Cam , Throttlebody , More Compression ? What Or Would You Advise To Leave It Alone?? Thanks Bob

Re: Rebuilding A 1995 Sc2 Motor

the 93 head should have flat faced valves, the 95 will have domed valves. the flatfaced valves will bump up compression slightly(maybe 0.2 or 0.3?). since this is a overhead cam engine, shaving the head will retard the timing, plus its in interferince engine, so don't go to far, i have heard going to 0.040 or a little more is safe, but i have heard others say don't shave more then 0.020. a 3-angle valve job and a port and polish is basicly a given for any performance build. the lower end from a 2000+ motor is stronger and has longer connecting rods and a raised pin position on the pistion. i would stay away from cams for a daily driver. a good place to start for aftermarket parts is SPSwebpage.com
