Odometer/Tripometer

My g/f owns a 1991 T-Bird and it seems that the trip and ododmeter quit working on it but the speedometer still works fine. The odometer is stuck on 136,xxx miles and hasn't moved in the last 6 months. It makes no kind of odd noises like my dad's POS windstar does it just quit working one day and never started working again.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Visit www.car-part.com and see if there's a salvage yard near you, and get a replacement speedometer. Chances are that there's a broken gear inside the assembly, and it needs replacement. It's easier to simply replace the entire assembly.

I have the same problem with the odometer not working but the speedo is find. I just replaced the instrument cluster and it did not fix the problem. I hope its the pickup on the transamision.

http://laudeman.com/bug_speedo.html Try out this link even if your a beginner in the field. Im sure step by step (set a day aside) and be extremely careful. With that done, Im almost positive it will turn out working. Im in the process of studying this and setting time aside to do it on my Tbird, now if you do it or are planning to - Let me know how it goes.

Re: Odometer/Tripometer

appreciate it. looked for a while for the parts, I was going to just buy a speedometer assembly to replace the whole thing. but nah, It'd be alot cheaper to buy those gears probably.
