1987 door panel removal

how do i take the door panels off my 87 without breaking the panel itself or the window crank handles?

If you push in on the panel and pull out on the handle, you should see a little metal clip that holds the handle on the shaft. Pull the clip off and the handle will come off. When you are ready to reinstall it, put the clip back on the handle then push the handle on the shaft. It will snap back on.

You're welcome. They are a pain in the ass. I have bent the tip of an ice pick and used it to remove them before. It worked pretty well.

90 degree needle nose works well also

once you have it off get a piece of sheet metal the thickness of the clip groove and cut it out to make a tool for the clip for future use

Just buy the tool,they don't cost that much.They make the job alot easier.

screw that. before i asked, i ripped off the passenger side with nothing except brute force. i got some handles from an 84 ford ranger and drilled holes in the shaft, tapped them out and PRESTO!!! no more annoying clips.

The clips aren't annoying when you have the tool.Besides the tool tool might run you a whole $5.00.
