Suspension noise through the body?
I've got a question that I need a hand with...
Does anyone know of a way ro reduce the amount of suspension noise that is traveling through the body, I know that I need to replace some of the suspension bushings, which leads to a nother question: Is there a bushing kit available that will contain the suspension bushings or will I need to buy individule. I'm getting an excessive amount of roaf noise as well as the loud bangs and clunks as I ride along the wonderful roads of Western Penna. Thank you, I'll await your input Dan |

Re: Suspension noise through the body?
Dan,
You might be able to find the right bushings on one of these two pages. http://www.mantapart.com/99ga.html http://www.espo.com/grandam.htm As far as reducing the noise, besides bushings, there is a way. You can purchase spray-able sound deadener. Some people use it to fill the cavities in their trunks when installing systems - it is a foam that expands and is great at dulling sounds. If you were to pull up your carpet, and spray a coat over all your floor pan, besides the tar mats / blankets that are all ready down to dull sounds (not there anymore on mine - weighed way too much ), it would help significantly deaden sound coming up through the floor pan. Another thing that I've heard helps reduce road / suspension noise is STB's (Strut tower braces). Thery're available at http://www.pfyc.com/ - they go between your strut towers to reduce chassis flexing, and thus allegedly help reduce noise.

Re: Suspension noise through the body?
I knew I could count on you guys!!,
Tam, I should have run a search but to be honest I had just gotten back from a ride in the GAGT ( it had been a while my wife has kinda taken over the car to go to work (goog milage). Any how after driving the new XL-7 pretty quiet for a 4X4 with a smooth ride, I got in the GT and was really disapointed in the amoung of noise I was picking up from the bumps in the road. After thinking about it I wasn't sure about the body mount system for the uni-body, I figured ther had to be at least a few bushings ant if they are shot thet would explain the noise. I check the recomended sights form both both you and Ride. tomarrow. Thanks again, Dan |
