Hey, I've got a 1997 Saturn SL. SL, not SL1, not SL, SL. Anyways, the transmission went--pretty bad, too. Clutch is gone too, piece up in everything I hear. So, to fix it, I need to replace the transmission, clutch flywheel depression plate.......
Now, I can get a transmission, used, for $200. Okay, and I'm trying to get this done as cheap as possible. I'm told the other things I can't get from a junker because they must be broken in order to take them out? And the new kit was about $280. What do you think, have you heard of this? It doesn't make sense to me that you have to break it. If it's gonna' run up to that much I'm going to have to get a new car cause' this one's got over 130k miles, some cracked panels, and the engine's getting a little raspy. Now I'd probably fix it but I got all these insane people around be insisting I have to get a new car, and I'd rather fix it, but for like $300. Anyone have any information on this? Also, if you could link to a transmission replacement how-to that would be great. Thanks for any help! -Stu. |

Update...
Okay... I found a clutch kit for $100 after like 2 seconds of searching myself... much better. But, do you know where I can get the transmission seals? Can you get them off a junker, or how much would they be? Thanks again, -Stu. |

Re: 1997 Saturn SL Transmission + Options?
you don't want to buy used seals, get them new, you may need to go to the dealership.
also, the hydraulics should be replaced with the clutch, if you buy the assemibly from the dealer, it will come pre-bleed and ready to install. http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29795 |
