Question 1996 saturn sc

i have oil getting into my radiator overflow tank
what causes my engine oil to get into my overflow radiator holding tank?
my engine oil will get low but it is still clean. is it a head gasket or is it the head itself. if its the head how can you test to make sure before i put money into it. does a compression check tell me if its the head or just the gasket? any one;s help is appreciated much. thanks everyone

Re: 1996 saturn sc

no coolent in the oil? double check your ATF if you have an autotrans. some auto part stores sell a little kit for 10 bucks or something that will test for combustion gases in you coolent, this will confirm your problem. you can just change the head gasket, but the proper way of doing things is to send the head and block to a machine shop to check for cracks, if this is a SOHC engine, i have a feeling the head is cracked. sometime in the mid-90s Saturn casted a handful of bad heads. i thought they were recalled, but i may be wrong.
