Check engine light......
I've got a 99 Honda Accord EX V6 and the check engine light is on. Is there anyway to turn it off without taking it into the honda shop?

Re: Check engine light......
It is coming on because the ECU is detecting a problem with one of the sensors that inputs into the ECU. You need to read the stored code/s to find why it is coming on. If there are no stored codes you have a bigger problem, a bad ECU. Disconnecting the battery will clear the stored codes but will also lockup your radio. And then you will need the radio code to get it operating again.

Don't disconnect the battery each time, you'll reset everything (if radio has security code), plus it's more difficult. Just remove fuse 13, which is the Clock Backup, for about five seconds and the ECU will reset. The only thing this also resets is of course the clock.
With a '99, I would say if nothing else, it probably has to do with the EGR valve. Honda really blew the big one on this generation with the EGR. I have had my '98 EX V-6 EGR replaced and port cleaned already (around 90K). Anyway, good luck finding your light problem. |
